Play-based Music for Elementary Students at Home Part 2

Play-Based Music Activities at Home for Families

Have you been enjoying Stamford’s play-based music activities at home?

Head of Arts at Stamford American School Hong Kong, Ms. Tina Bachelder-Schwab has some new tunes for you to enjoy at home. So gather your household items, and get up and have some fun!

Remember, for the ‘found sound’ activities, look for items that have a unique sound when played together:

  • A plastic bowl and wooden or metal spoon (hand drum)
  • Two wooden or metal spoons to hit together (rhythm sticks)
  • Plastic or metal bucket turned over and played with hands (African drum)
  • Small food container with a cover and some coins rice or beans inside (maraca or shaker)
  • Plastic bottle with a little rice or beans inside (maraca or shaker)
  • For Grades 2-5, try playing along to these songs with family and friends:
  • “Peer Gynt” with “Hair in the Air” from the Trolls movie (Great for Grades 2-5)
  • “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” from The Nutcracker by. P. Tchaikovsky (2-5)

Elementary students learn best in short, focused sessions with varied tasks.  Take regular ‘brain breaks’ to get up and stretch. Here are some tunes to get the wiggles out, that our Pre-Primary to Grade 2 students will love!  All you will need is a little bit of space. Make sure you move safely and be aware of objects around you!

“A Ram Sam Sam”

Can you sing along and do the actions at the same time?  Here are the words:

A ram sam sam, a ram sam sam

Guli guli guli guli guli ram sam sam

A rafi, a rafi

Guli guli guli guli guli ram sam sam

“The Skeleton Dance” this song is so catchy you will have fun singing and moving all by yourself!

We hope you are all enjoying our online home learning activities!
