Emma Chen

Before joining Stamford, Emma taught in international schools in Beijing. Emma has seven years of EAL teaching experience working in small groups and larger classes. This experience allowed her to understand each student’s needs and their way of thinking to best support student growth. Her collaborative teaching approach creates close connections with students, which helps them to open up and accept support. Beyond her teaching experience, Emma obtained a Master’s degree in Global Education. She received a K-12 ESL teaching license in Washington DC, which allowed her to sharpen her craft with advanced teaching tools. Emma looks forward to nurturing Stamford students’ broad perspectives and diverse backgrounds with her theoretical and practical experience to support them to their highest potential and build confidence.

Emma says, “When I was a student, I always felt studying was challenging and tedious. I can still see that students suffer in the traditional teaching and learning practices. As an educator, my goal is to have my students engaged in and enthusiastic about their learning. The strongest motivations are intrinsic. If we can understand what drives a student, we can develop strategies to harness the power of their passion and use it to guide learning. In my classroom, I create an environment where students feel comfortable sharing their opinions and ideas without fear of being wrong or judged. To do this, I give every student the chance to express their views without fear which lifts the students’ voices, even students who are seldom heard.”
