Why Mandarin and Spanish?
Chinese and Spanish are two of the most widely spoken languages in the world, to broaden our student’s knowledge and opportunities we offer a choice of these two languages as an integral part of our daily core curriculum from age five. In high school, students can also choose to study a dual language IB diploma.
How are the classes structured?
Students receive forty minutes of language instruction each day which includes speaking, listening, reading and writing. In addition to the core language skills, students will explore topics related to inquiry units in their homeroom classes. To gain a deeper understanding of the language, they learn more about the culture through a variety of research projects and develop confidence through presentations.
Do all classes study at the same level?
No, at Stamford we use a personalized learning approach in all our subject areas. Students are assessed in Mandarin and Spanish and progress through proficiency levels to ensure that they are challenged appropriately, improving their ability to use and master the language.
