Exceeding Expectations Commencing the New Academic Year Virtually

Stamford American School opened its doors virtually to start its fourth year in Hong Kong and focused on community building and care to ensure the year started smoothly for both students and parents. The ICT team led the way in service by organizing a Hong Kong-wide device pick-up utilizing the school's bus service, combined with strict health and safety measures, to allow parents to collect their welcome packs and laptops safely. "We wanted to delight our parents, we appreciate the ongoing support of our community and thought this was one way we could express our care," shared Head of ICT Marlon Arenas.

Leadership and faculty focused on creating strong connections between teachers and students through a three day online "Meet the Teacher" event. Families were able to connect with teachers and attended various webinars to learn more about the new enhanced online teaching approach reflecting the school's experience and parent feedback. Online learning expectations such as wearing school uniforms were set, and parents were assured the same quality of teaching and learning would continue, including all specialist subjects and offering online EAL support and counseling services. "Last year, we were still able to exceed student growth targets. With a refined approach focusing on both academics and wellbeing I believe we will achieve even better outcomes that address the needs of the whole child," commented Head of School Karrie Dietz. The initiatives thrilled parents who posted on social media showcasing the schools COVID-19 adopted hashtag, #stamfordstrong, showing the community's resilience and support that continues to thrive even amidst its challenge and truly lives and breathes its core values.
